Hedwig Village, located south of Interstate 10 on the western edge of Houston and encompassing about a square mile, offers a quiet place to relax from the hustle and bustle of the big city.
|
| Hedwig Village is in the Spring Branch-Memorial area, which was originally part of the John D. Taylor and Isaac Bunker leagues and was settled largely by Germans.
The community is named for nearby Hedwig Road, built on land donated by Hedwig Jankowski Schroeder, who immigrated with her husband from Germany to Texas to farm in 1906. Hedwig Village incorporated on December 23, 1954, and adopted a zoning ordinance in 1955 to ensure orderly land use. |

In the late 1950’s, the cities of Hedwig Village, Bunker Hill, Piney Point and Hunters Creek formed one law enforcement agency that provided police services for each of the four |
villages. As time passed, each city developed its own goals and priorities. The four villages found their policing requirements growing in different directions.
The citizens of Hedwig Village realized that in order to meet the policing challenges of its community which comprises both business along the prime I-10 corridor and residential, Hedwig Village would have to form it’s own police department. In December of 1976 the Hedwig Village Police Department was born and proudly services the community today. |
