Piney Point Village can trace its origins back to the early 1820s when surveyor John D. Taylor received a land grant from Stephen F. Austin for a league centered on “pine point” at the southernmost turn of Buffalo Bayou. The area rich in resources of water and timber encompasses approximately 2 ½ square miles and was a popular stopping place on the wagon trail from Houston for early settlers of Texas.
In the 1950s,as Memorial Drive expanded, Houstonians became interested in moving westward to build their residences. With Houston rapidly growing
and annexation becoming likely, residents banded together and the City of Piney Point Village was incorporated.
Residents enjoy law enforcement and fire protection from the Memorial Villages Police and the Village Fire Department and have their own city government.
Only single family residences on lots with at least 40,000 square feet are permitted (smaller lots have been grandfathered). By choice, the city maintains restrictions against business of any kind.
A highly affluent area, Piney Point Village is also home to The Kinkaid School – one of Houston’s oldest private schools.
